Fall 2003
This term project will be a research-oriented exercise. The goal is to
familiarize you with the initial stages -- particularly literature review,
problem definition, comparison, potential ways to improve -- of a
complete research cycle.
To be specific, you will be asked to
- Skim through papers provided in the reading list.
- Select a topic of interest.
- Read assigned papers in that topic
- Find a problem that needs to be solved (any problem)
- Compare existing solutions (additional papers welcome)
- Suggest solutions (can be existing ones or propose one yourself)
You will turn in a 1-page double-spaced proposal before the midterm exam
and a 6-page (or less), 11-pt-font, double-spaced report by the final exam.
Immediately after turning in the project proposal, each team will be
scheduled to discuss the term project with the instructor in person.
The meeting is set to 30 minutes long and during these office
hours: 11/26 12-2 and 11/28 10-12. All team members will need to be present
during the meeting. The team as a whole (one can speak for the

the project proposal. The meeting place will be the instructor's
