Introduction to Computer Networks

This is an introductory computer network course for undergraduate students who are interested in learning the engineering aspect of the Internet. The goal of the course is to communicate systematically the essential technical details .

We will take the top-down approach this semester. Following a brief overview, the lectures will go straight into the details of the Internet from the components that are easier to grasp for the entry-level students. For the lecture schedule, please check out the syllabus link above. Please also note that all communications in this class will be in English.

Objectives:

• Overviewing the existence and the components of the Internet
• Examining the mechanisms running in various components
• Understanding the nature of the problems these mechanisms are trying to solve

• By layers: Application Layer, Transport Layer, Network Layer, Link Layer
  
• By functionality: Multimedia Networking, Network Security, Network Management
